Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau announced that foreign assistance will be sought to investigate the massive fire that broke out on the morning of December 12, 2024, affecting buildings housing three Government ministries and the Malé City Council office.

Speaking at a press conference today, Commissioner Shujau stated that a thorough investigation into the incident is underway. He assured that authorities are confident that they will be able to ascertain the cause of the incident. To support the efforts, arrangements are being made to involve an overseas investigation team in collaboration with the Maldives Police. The Commissioner noted that the necessary steps to enable the foreign team’s participation will be completed within the next two to three days.

In the meantime, a local investigation team has already commenced work. Authorities are recording statements from witnesses, including those who first noticed the fire and individuals initially seen at the site. Efforts are also focused on examining CCTV footage from the area to gather further evidence.

The Government remains committed to uncovering the cause of the incident and ensuring accountability as the investigation progresses. Further updates are expected in the coming days.
