The Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, has firmly rejected calls for the formation of an interim government in the Maldives, insisting that there is no justification for such a move.

In an exclusive interview with MMTV, the Minister emphasised that the recent election was not a referendum on the President. He dismissed opposition claims, arguing that they are seeking political advantage despite there being no such instability in the country.

Minister Shiyam further noted that, based on the election results, the Government secured the majority of seats. He added that the formation of an interim government would have been more appropriate under previous administrations, rather than the current one.

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), however, has been calling for the creation of an all-party interim government following the Government’s performance in the local council elections. The party has also been staging nightly protests, presenting a list of 12 demands to the Government.
