First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has called for increased participation of girls and young women in the field of information and communication technology (ICT), emphasising their role in shaping the future of innovation and artificial intelligence.

In a message shared on social media to celebrate International Girls in ICT Day, she encouraged girls to explore opportunities in technology, noting that their ideas, voices and curiosity are essential in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

She highlighted the importance of creating inclusive and supportive environments to break barriers and expand opportunities, particularly in fields where women remain underrepresented, adding that collective efforts are needed to empower the next generation of leaders.

The First Lady also stressed the importance of continued learning and development, stating that the future of ICT must be shaped through equal participation. International Girls in ICT Day is observed annually on the fourth Thursday of April to promote gender equality and encourage more women to pursue careers in technology.
