Fish exports rise 35% in March

Statistics released by Maldives Customs Service show that fish exports from the Maldives increased by 35 per cent in March.
Export earnings rose to MVR 69 million during the month, up from MVR 51 million recorded in February.
The data also highlights a sharp increase in canned fish exports, which grew by 75 per cent. Export value for canned tuna rose from MVR 29 million in February to MVR 51 million in March.
A breakdown of fish exports for March shows that canned fish accounted for MVR 51 million, while frozen tuna exports reached MVR 8 million and fresh chilled tuna totalled MVR 6 million.
The Government is continuing efforts to strengthen the fisheries industry by expanding fish processing capacity and enhancing cold storage facilities.
