Survey work is underway to begin the road development project in Shaviyani Goidhoo under the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP), the Road Development Corporation (RDC) has said.
The agreement for the project was signed in October last year during a special ceremony held as part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to the island. It was signed on behalf of the Government by State Minister at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Hassan Rasheed, and on behalf of RDC by Managing Director Ibrahim Nazeem.
The project will see the development of 10 roads in Goidhoo, covering a total of 5.45 kilometres.
RDC said the works will include road construction, drainage installation and kerb works. The project will also involve levelling and strengthening the road base, preparing base course layers for asphalt, developing pavements, installing kerbs and laying asphalt. Additional works such as zigzag paving are also planned.
The project has been awarded to RDC at a cost of MVR 72.6 million, with completion scheduled within 730 days.
During the same visit, President Dr Muizzu also oversaw the introduction of ATM services on the island, along with the commencement of work on a police station and a waste management centre.
