The Maldives Bureau of Statistics has announced plans to carry out the Labour Force Survey fieldwork from December 15–24, 2024, targeting randomly selected households in Malé, Villimalé, and Hulhumalé.

This initiative is part of an effort to collect detailed data on the country’s labour force. Specifically, the survey will explore aspects such as employment and unemployment rates, migration patterns, household production, education, and volunteer work. These findings are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping policies, refining population projections, and monitoring the Maldives’ progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In addition, the data will help assess the Decent Jobs Indicator, a crucial metric that evaluates job quality and economic well-being across the nation. By providing this comprehensive analysis, the survey seeks to support evidence-based decision-making for the country’s socio-economic development.

To address concerns over privacy, the Maldives Bureau of Statistics has assured participants that all information provided will remain strictly confidential. Under Regulation No. 16/2022 of the Maldives Statistics Act, the disclosure of individual or household data for legal or other purposes is strictly prohibited. This measure aims to safeguard respondents’ privacy while fostering trust and cooperation among participants.

Given the importance of this data, the Bureau requests selected households to cooperate with the survey teams. Their participation will be instrumental in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the findings, which will ultimately inform national policies and development strategies.

Work for the Labour Force Survey, has been ongoing since October 28, 2024. For further details, households can contact the Bureau through their helpline at 3008400.
