President highlights private sector role at Maldives–Sri Lanka Business Forum

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has underscored the importance of private sector-led growth in driving the Maldives’ economic development, during the Maldives–Sri Lanka Business Forum held in Colombo.

Delivering the keynote address, the President said the country is at a key stage in its development journey, guided by long-term plans aimed at building a more inclusive and sustainable economy. He noted that the Government is prioritising policies that support business growth, encourage investment and strengthen the role of entrepreneurs.

The President highlighted ongoing economic reforms, including updates to the foreign investment framework and changes to special economic zone policies, aimed at improving transparency and creating a more predictable environment for investors. He also pointed to increasing investor interest in the Maldives, particularly in areas linked to digital development and emerging sectors.

Emphasising regional cooperation, the President Dr Muizzu identified Sri Lanka as a key partner, noting opportunities to expand collaboration in areas such as infrastructure, tourism, technology and food security. He added that strengthening two-way investment would be important in building a more balanced and resilient economic relationship.
