The Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMBC) has instructed all media outlets to comply with a Criminal Court order prohibiting the circulation of a video documentary published by Adhadhu.

In a circular issued to media organisations in its capacity as the national media regulator, the commission said all outlets must ensure that any content they publish fully adheres to the restrictions outlined in the court order.

The Criminal Court’s order, issued on Sunday, prohibits the documentary from being circulated in any form and bars the publication or dissemination of any statements contained in the production, whether directly or indirectly.

The order also prohibits the publication of any statements made by the accused in the case or by the alleged victim.

The court warned that failure to comply with the order could amount to contempt of court.
