Maldives Airports Company Limited has announced special arrangements at Velana International Airport to facilitate the departure of Maldivian pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.
MACL said the arrangements were made in coordination with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Maldives Hajj Corporation and other relevant authorities to ensure a smooth departure process for pilgrims.
This year, Maldivian pilgrims are scheduled to travel on two flights operated by Maldivian and two flights operated by Saudia under the Makkah Route Initiative. The flights are scheduled to depart on May 15, 17, 18 and 19.
MACL further stated that the first Saudia flight departing on May 15 will carry 242 pilgrims. Buses transporting pilgrims on that day will arrive in front of the former domestic terminal area at VIA, while arrangements have also been made for Friday prayers to be held at the Waterfront building, similar to previous years.
For pilgrims departing on May 17, 18 and 19, buses will stop at the Terminal 2 drop-off zone, with the concourse area of Terminal 2 designated as the waiting area for pilgrims. MACL added that airport personnel will be stationed throughout the designated areas to assist pilgrims and coordinate departure procedures.
