State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation Limited has opened its first pharmacy at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), expanding the company’s pharmaceutical services within the public healthcare system.
The pharmacy, named “StatePharma IGMH Pharmacy”, was opened in the hospital’s OPD area during a ceremony attended by Chief Executive Officer of Male’ City Group of Hospitals Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem and Managing Director of State Pharmaceuticals Dr Shah Mahir.
According to the company, the pharmacy will operate as a 24-hour service facility aimed at improving public access to medicines and pharmaceutical services. State Pharmaceuticals stated that arrangements have also been made to supply medicines to prescription patients and facilitate the procurement of medicines from overseas markets when required.
The company further noted that preparations are underway to begin direct delivery of medicines and medical equipment to patients admitted at IGMH as part of efforts to strengthen pharmaceutical services within the hospital.
State Pharmaceuticals stated that one of its main objectives is to ensure sustainable access to medicines across the nation. The company said ongoing efforts are focused on addressing challenges related to medicine availability and accessibility nationwide.
The State-owned company was established in 2025 to address medicine shortages and challenges related to pharmaceutical supply in the Maldives. Authorities stated that the company has since been working on developing its operational framework and strengthening medicine procurement and distribution systems.
State Pharmaceuticals has also introduced a 24-hour hotline service, available through the number 1505, to assist the public with issues related to accessing medicines.
