The President’s Office has responded to all Right to Information (RTI) requests submitted under the Right to Information Act, Chief Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef has said.

Speaking during the “Presser with the Spox”, Shareef stated that responses had been provided to all RTI requests, except for those exempted under the Act, as of Friday.

“As of yesterday, we have cleared them all. Of course, there may be information that cannot be disclosed under other laws. For example, matters related to privacy have to be considered. We have to determine whether the information requested can legally be shared,” the spokesperson said.

“Efforts are now underway to ensure other Government institutions also provide the necessary transparency and complete responses to RTI requests. RTI is one part of the law, while another part requires institutions to proactively disclose information. We are also taking the lead in making information on Government institutions’ websites more accessible and transparent,” Shareef said.

The Spokesperson added that the Office of the Information Commissioner is also monitoring whether efforts to increase transparency and information disclosure are being implemented properly.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had previously assured during a press conference held on 11 May 2026 that all RTI requests submitted to the President’s Office would receive responses.

Shareef further stated that the Government aims to establish a system where information can be shared as openly as possible across a wide range of areas.

However, he reiterated that information related to national security cannot be disclosed even if RTI requests are submitted seeking such information.
