For the first time since the Right to Information (RTI) Act came into force 12 years ago, all Government ministries, the Attorney General's Office and the President's Office have achieved full compliance with the Act's proactive disclosure requirements.

All relevant institutions had met the disclosure obligations outlined in the RTI Act as of 7 June 2026.

The RTI Act requires State institutions to proactively publish 13 categories of information without waiting for requests from the public. The law stipulates that such information must be made accessible to the public and updated at least once a year, or more frequently where necessary.

The Government noted that many State institutions had not fully complied with these obligations in the years since the legislation was enacted, adding that adherence to the law reflects accountability and respect towards the public.

Chief Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef has stated the Government has no intention of withholding information that is of public interest. He noted that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had instructed State institutions to make as much information available to the public as possible.

Shareef further said that President Dr Muizzu has maintained close engagement with the public by listening directly to citizens' concerns and complaints and responding to issues affecting them. He also highlighted the President's participation in podcasts and interviews as part of efforts to communicate openly with the public.

Emphasising the Administration's commitment to transparency, Shareef said the Government believes all information should be disclosed except in cases involving national security concerns or personal data protected by law.
