Nearly one million tourists visit Maldives so far this year

The Maldives has welcomed 999,344 tourists so far this year, according to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.

The Ministry's figures show that the number of tourist arrivals reached 999,344 as of 14 June.

Compared to the same period last year, this represents a decline of 4.9 per cent in tourist arrivals.

Tourism statistics further indicate that the Maldives is currently receiving an average of 6,057 tourists per day. During the month of June alone, 55,353 tourists had visited the country as of 14 June.

China remains the Maldives' largest source market for tourist arrivals this year. A total of 154,823 visitors from China have travelled to the Maldives so far in 2026. China was also the leading source market for the Maldives during the previous year.

Russia ranks as the second-largest source market, contributing 137,267 tourist arrivals. The United Kingdom occupies third place, with 83,143 visitors recorded during the period.

Velana International Airport (VIA) continued to serve as the country's main gateway for international tourists. Statistics show that 972,238 tourists entered the Maldives through VIA.

Gan International Airport recorded the second-highest number of arrivals, with 3,969 tourists entering through the airport, while Maafaru International Airport ranked third with 3,451 arrivals.
