The State Pharmaceuticals and Medical Supplies Corporation (State Pharma) has denied claims circulating on social media alleging that it charged a customer for medicines that are not covered under the Aasandha national health insurance scheme.

In a statement, State Pharma said the incident relates to medicines dispensed yesterday morning at its Henveiru Pharmacy to a customer. The total value of the medicines supplied was MVR 2,977.15.

The company clarified that the medicines in question are not covered under the Aasandha scheme. They were instead supplied through an insurance partner's prescription slip at the State Pharma pharmacy.

State Pharma also addressed a quotation circulating on social media bearing the company's letterhead, which lists the cost of the medicines at more than MVR 6,000. It explained that medicine prices vary depending on the brand, and that differences in pricing between brands are normal and expected.

The company further noted that medicines not covered by Aasandha are often imported through multiple intermediaries and with the assistance of other agencies. As such, it said it is inaccurate to suggest that customers were improperly charged for the medicines based on the information being shared online.

State Pharma reaffirmed that all medicines are dispensed in accordance with established procedures and assured the public that the company's operations adhere strictly to approved protocols.State Pharma denies claims of charging for medicines not covered by Aasandha
