The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming the company issued a warning to staff working at Velana International Airport (VIA) over the use of airport security passes.
Several media outlets reported that MACL had circulated a notice warning employees that disciplinary action would be taken against those found using airport security passes for purposes unrelated to their official duties.
Responding to MMTV, MACL said the reports were inaccurate, explaining that the airport regularly issues circulars to remind employees of security procedures as part of its routine operations.
The company said VIA is a high-security facility, and staff are periodically reminded of security requirements to help maintain airport safety. MACL added that such circulars are issued from time to time and are not linked to any specific incident.
MACL also rejected claims that the circular was issued in response to a particular case, describing such reports as false.
The company noted that airport employees play a key role in maintaining security and that regular reminders are necessary to reinforce security awareness and compliance with established procedures.
MACL further said it continues to implement a range of measures to strengthen security at the country's main international gateway, enhance border security, and reduce opportunities for unlawful activities.
