The Civil Service Commission (CSC) is holding consultations with teachers and schools to identify workplace challenges in the education sector and develop solutions in collaboration with stakeholders.
Speaking on a programme on State media, CSC Counsel General Uz Ibrahim Rasheed said the commission has already met with a large number of schools in the Greater Malé Region in efforts to better understand the concerns affecting teachers and their working environment.
Rasheed said one of the main issues raised by teachers relates to the new public sector pay framework, particularly concerns over salary classifications, the determination of job ranks and promotion procedures. He said discussions are currently underway with the National Pay Commission to address those issues.
The CSC is also working with the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development and National Pay Commission to resolve concerns relating to teachers' allowances and work carried out outside normal working hours.
Rasheed noted that teachers, like nurses, have unique working arrangements that differ from many other professions within the civil service, making it necessary to develop policies that reflect the nature of their work. He said the commission aims to resolve the issues through continued consultations with stakeholders.
