The Maldives Police Service has warned motorists against parking vehicles on pavements in Hulhumalé after an increase in illegally parked vehicles was found to be obstructing pedestrian walkways and causing inconvenience to road users.

In a post on X, the service reminded motorists that Section 55 of the Land Transport Act prohibits driving or parking any type of vehicle in areas designated for pedestrians. The only exceptions under the law are children's strollers and manually operated wheelchairs used by persons with disabilities.

The warning comes as authorities continue efforts to improve pedestrian access in Hulhumalé, where vehicles parked on pavements have become a recurring concern for residents. The Maldives Police Service said enforcement action is continuing against such violations, with illegally parked vehicles being towed from pedestrian areas.
