Construction of the new school building in Baa Kamadhoo is expected to be completed next term, Minister of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development Dr Ismail Shafeeu has said.

Providing an update in Parliament, minister Dr Shafeeu said planning for the project has been completed, with the building design and structural drawings finalised, allowing construction to proceed. He said work is scheduled to begin during the current term and the project is expected to be completed in the following term.

The update came in response to a question from Kendhoo Member of Parliament Mauroof Zakir, who sought clarification on the progress of the project and when the new school building would be ready for students.

Minister Dr Shafeeu said the project was initiated under the previous administration but did not progress because sufficient funding had not been allocated. He added that the current A=dministration has prepared a broader education sector development plan that includes projects previously delayed due to budget constraints.

The school building has also been redesigned to include six classrooms and an office building after consultations with the school and parents. He said the revised design makes the best use of the limited land available for the project while meeting the school's current requirements.

Minister Dr Shafeeu added that the Ministry has been keeping the school informed of the project's progress, stressing the importance of ensuring education infrastructure projects are implemented in line with the needs of students, parents and schools.
