President's Office --

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has established the Greater Malé Transport and Mobility Office, a specialised Government body tasked with improving transport and mobility across the Greater Malé Region and addressing the area's growing traffic congestion.

The office was established under Article 116(a) of the Constitution, which empowers the President to create Government offices. The announcement issued by the President's Office stated that it will operate under the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade.

The new office has been created in response to the increasing number of vehicles on roads in the Greater Malé area and the resulting congestion. It will coordinate with relevant agencies to develop and implement programmes aimed at easing traffic, improving mobility and delivering sustainable transport solutions.

Among its key responsibilities are modernising the Greater Malé transport network, expanding parking infrastructure and identifying innovative mobility solutions to meet the region's evolving transport needs. The office will also play a leading role in implementing projects that enhance transport efficiency and support long-term urban mobility.

Operating under the oversight of a governing board, the office will advise relevant authorities on transport and mobility policies, coordinate inter-agency initiatives and help formulate strategic measures to reduce congestion and improve the overall transport system in the Greater Malé Region.

The President's Office also announced that the official correspondence code assigned to the Greater Malé Transport and Mobility Office is 1142, in accordance with President's Office Announcement No. 2026/13.
