The Local Government Authority (LGA) has opened nominations for the election to appoint members to its Board from among councillors and presidents of Women's Development Committees (WDCs).

The election, held under Article 59 of the Decentralisation Act, will elect three members to the Board. They include one representative elected from among city councillors, one from among island councillors, and one from among presidents of Women's Development Committees.

Nominations will remain open until 12:00 pm on Thursday, 16 July.

Nomination forms must be submitted via email to [email protected]. Those unable to submit their forms electronically may do so in person at the LGA office in Atoll Post Building between 8:30 am and 2:00 pm on government working days.

Applicants are required to submit a completed nomination form along with a copy of their Maldivian identity card, passport or driving licence as proof of citizenship, as well as a soft copy of a passport-sized photograph.

Voting for the election will take place on Saturday, 8 August, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, while the official results will be announced on Tuesday, 11 August.

The election is being held to ensure representation of councils on the LGA Board and to further strengthen the decentralised system of local governance in the Maldives.
