President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended condolences to the Government and people of Bangladesh following the devastating monsoon floods and landslides that have claimed dozens of lives and left more than one million people stranded.
In a message shared on X, President Dr Muizzu conveyed the deepest sympathies from the Government and the people of the Maldives to Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the government and the people of Bangladesh as they continue to face the impact of the disaster.
The President expressed sympathy to the families who lost their loved ones and to those whose livelihoods have been disrupted by the floods. He also reaffirmed the Maldives' solidarity with Bangladesh during this difficult time and wished safety, strength and a swift recovery for all affected communities.
Floods and landslides triggered by days of torrential monsoon rain have killed at least 44 people in southeastern Bangladesh and left more than one million people stranded. Reports said 267,918 households have been affected, with around one million people impacted across seven districts. The severe weather has also damaged roads and communication networks, making relief operations more difficult.
