The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded the contract to develop the Israhvehinge Hiyaavahi elderly care centre project in Kaafu Thulusdhoo.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Social and Family Development. State Minister Ibrahim Ismail signed the agreement on behalf of the ministry, while MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudhee signed on behalf of the company.
The Israhvehinge Hiyaavahi project in Thulusdhoo is part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's pledge to establish elderly care centres in three regions of the Maldives. The centres will provide healthcare, social programmes and other support services for elderly people under State care.
The Ministry of Social and Family Development said the centres will offer healthcare, mental health and social support services under one roof, with a particular focus on elderly people who require social protection.
In addition to the Thulusdhoo project, MTCC has also been contracted to develop the "Israhvehinge Hiyaavahi" project in Shaviyani Funadhoo. Meanwhile, the age care centre planned for Feydhoo in Addu City, which will serve the southern region, has been awarded to LITUS Automobiles under a contractor financing arrangement.
The Government aims to expand services for senior citizens while ensuring they receive the care and support they need without leaving anyone behind.
