Government schools have opened admissions for the upcoming academic year, with applications due by 31 August, the Ministry of Education has announced.
The ministry stated that parents applying for admission must ensure all information submitted through the online application is accurate, as the email address and mobile number provided will be registered as the parent's contact details and may be shared with schools.
Applicants are also required to upload supporting documents depending on the student's status. Maldivian students must submit copies of the student's and parent's identity cards, while new students are also required to provide a vaccination card. Parents applying for admission to Lower Kindergarten (LKG) must additionally submit the prescribed school readiness assessment form.
Expatriate students must provide copies of the student's and parent's passports and visas, a valid work permit, a vaccination card for new students, and the required LKG assessment form where applicable. Documents confirming the family's place of residence, including house registry records or tenancy agreements, must also be submitted based on their living arrangements.
Students began their current school holidays on 17 July, while the second term is scheduled to resume on 2 August. The Ministry has announced that the 2027 academic year will begin on 17 January, following the year-end holiday in December.
