President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed his warm greetings and best wishes to Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, as well as the government and people of Singapore, as the Maldives and Singapore mark 50 years of formal diplomatic relations.

On a social media post on X, President Dr Muizzu acknowledged the enduring friendship between the two nations and highlighted the strong partnership that has developed over the past five decades, characterised by economic collaboration, diplomatic engagement, and people-to-people connections.

This milestone commemorates a half-century of cooperation and mutual respect, reflecting the commitment of both countries to strengthening ties and fostering continued progress.

Over the past five decades, bilateral relations have expanded across multiple sectors. Singapore has remained a key trading partner for the Maldives, with economic collaboration playing a central role in strengthening ties. Trade, investment, and business engagements, particularly in tourism, construction, and infrastructure, have contributed to the economic development of both nations.

Alongside economic cooperation, cultural and educational exchanges have further reinforced connections, fostering greater understanding and goodwill between their peoples. Increased travel and official engagements have also helped solidify the relationship, reflecting a shared commitment to regional stability and progress.

As both countries reflect on this milestone, there is a mutual commitment to sustaining and enhancing cooperation in the years ahead.

President Dr Muizzu expressed his hope that the Maldives and Singapore would continue to build on their achievements and strengthen their partnership. He emphasised the importance of maintaining the positive trajectory of bilateral ties for the mutual benefit of both countries and their people. Highlighting the foundation of trust and collaboration, he reaffirmed the commitment to enhanced diplomatic engagement, economic growth, and sustained prosperity in the years ahead.
