Attorney General Uz Ahmed Usham stated on Tuesday that there had been no attempt to influence justices of the Supreme Court, firmly denying allegations that have been circulating on social media and in public forums.

His remarks were made in response to questions raised during the Aha Forum, where accusations were directed against him and the current Administration.

Claims suggesting Government interference in judicial matters were notably echoed by former Supreme Court Justice Husnu Suood. However, Uz Usham rejected the accusations outright, asserting that no such actions had taken place. He further alleged that Justice Husnu Suood himself had engaged in political activity and, since the current Administration assumed office, had sought to exert influence over the President through various means and private discussions.

The Attorney General stated with confidence that it was in fact Justice Husnu Suood who had attempted to influence the judiciary and the Supreme Court, adding that he would be prepared to take full responsibility should an investigation ever be launched.

Uz Usham also addressed separate allegations made by Supreme Court Justice Dr Azmiralda Zahir, who accused him of issuing threats through a third party. Justice Dr Azmiralda, like Justice Husnu Suood, claimed the Attorney General and the Administration were attempting to interfere with the Court’s proceedings.

Responding to these claims, Uz Usham argued that the accusations were a distortion of events, specifically a private conversation he had with a friend earlier this year. He emphasised that the dialogue in question occurred well before any Supreme Court hearings had been scheduled in the case, and pointed out that two hearings had already been conducted with both Justice Husnu Suood and Justice Dr Azmiralda present on the bench.

The Attorney General questioned why, if the allegations held merit, they were not raised during those official proceedings. He implied that the timing of the claims was linked to an ongoing disciplinary investigation within the judiciary, suggesting that the accusations were not only baseless but also politically motivated.
