President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed attended the official flag-hoisting ceremony held at Republic Square this morning to celebrate the 61st Independence Day of the Maldives.

The ceremony was held at 6:00 a.m. and was attended by Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef, senior Government officials and other dignitaries.

Following the raising of the national flag, a special prayer was recited to commemorate the occasion. The ceremony concluded with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Military Band performing the National Anthem.

Maldives Independence Day is celebrated annually on 26 July, marking the country’s independence from the British Protectorate in 1965 and the restoration of full sovereignty.
