The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a White Alert for regions from Haa Alifu Atoll to Thaa Atoll, warning of strong winds and rough sea conditions forecast for this evening.
The alert is in effect from 03:30 p.m. to 09:30 p.m. today, with wind speeds ranging between 22 and 27 miles per hour, and gusts expected to reach up to 45 miles per hour. The MET Office has cautioned that seas are likely to be rough, posing risks to maritime activities.
The advisory is part of a broader weather warning issued in anticipation of an intensified southwest monsoon, expected to affect the Maldives from July 17 to 20. Weather conditions are forecast to remain unstable, with light to moderate rain and isolated thunderstorms likely across several regions over the next 24 hours.
Squally winds between 10–20 km/h, with gusts reaching 25 km/h, are expected to affect the west-northwest and south-central atolls, potentially disrupting sea transport and outdoor activities.
The MET Office has urged seafarers, travellers, and the general public to exercise caution and to follow updates as conditions may deteriorate.
