Police officer injured in arrest operation in Male’

A police officer was injured during an operation to apprehend two suspects accused of robbery and assault on July 18 in Male'.

The incident occurred around 11:57 p.m. after police received a report of a man being forcibly detained and threatened with sharp object on Lonuziyaarai Magu. The suspects allegedly coerced the victim into transferring MVR 200 from his account.

Acting on the report, officers attempted to enter a residence in the area where the suspects were believed to be hiding. A confrontation followed, during which a police officer was injured. Two men were arrested for allegedly resisting arrest, assaulting officers, and obstructing police duties.

The suspects, a 23-year-old and 55-year-old both sustained minor injuries during the altercation and were treated along with the injured officer. They have been remanded in police custody for five days pending further investigation.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the robbery, as well as the assault on law enforcement officers.
