Autopsy confirms head injury in Maalhos death

A provisional autopsy report has confirmed that Abdul Rahman Adam, the 65-year-old man who died under suspicious circumstances in Alifu Alifu Maalhos, succumbed as a result of head injuries, according to the Maldives Police Service.

Abdul Rahman was found with severe injuries at his residence in the early hours of 13 July. He was initially taken to the Maalhos Health Centre for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries. His body was flown to Thiruvananthapuram, India, on 21 July for post-mortem analysis. The police shared the interim findings of the autopsy with the media today, confirming head trauma as the cause of death

Police have yet to make any arrests in the case but said investigations are ongoing. A special investigative team has been deployed to Maalhos, and the area around Abdul Rahman’s home has been cordoned off.

As part of the investigation, authorities have reviewed CCTV footage from the island and collected fingerprints and footprints of individuals who had entered the home. His wife, Nazima's mobile phone was also temporarily seized and examined before being returned.  Abdul Rahman, a fisherman by trade, was a long-time resident of Maalhos and lived with his wife. He is survived by two children.
