The Government has increased the monthly allowance for players and officials representing the Maldives in national teams across various sports.

According to the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, the allowance has been raised from MVR 5,000 to MVR 7,000 per month. The Ministry issued a circular on Thursday informing all sports associations of the change, stating that the revised allowance has been in effect since May 2025.

The circular further instructed associations to include the updated allowance in their salary sheets starting from 15 September 2025. The Ministry also noted that work is underway to pay players the outstanding balance of the increased allowance from May onwards.

The decision to raise the allowance was announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in his 2025 Presidential Address, during which he said the Government would increase financial support for athletes representing the Maldives internationally in national teams.
