Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has reported that 50 per cent of the stormwater management and related infrastructure works under the redevelopment of the north side of Boduthakurufaanu Magu have been completed.
MTCC stated that ongoing works include the installation of catchpits and settlement tanks, as well as pipe laying for the stormwater management system’s pump station, which is now 50 per cent complete. The system aims to mitigate frequent flooding in the area.
Subgrade works of the carriageway and compaction of sidewalks are also underway, while 50 per cent of the cable trench installation has been completed.
Additionally, service line works are scheduled to commence this week.
The redevelopment of the north side of Boduthakurufaanu Magu is expected to significantly enhance accessibility and road safety in Malé. The project features modern, pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, including widened roads to ease traffic congestion and a new stormwater drainage system to mitigate flooding during heavy rainfall, creating a safer and more resilient urban environment.
Valued at MVR 144.5 million, the project covers an 830-metre stretch from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Local Market and is being implemented in three phases. The development includes the construction of a 737-metre coastal wall, expansion of the road into four lanes, and the addition of pedestrian zones and a comprehensive stormwater management system.
