The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced that more than 3,600 tonnes of cargo have been transported through the Maldives’ sea-to-air cargo service since its launch.
Launched on 15 May 2024, the sea-to-air cargo service is operated jointly by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and Maldives Ports Limited (MPL). The service enables goods arriving by sea to be quickly transhipped by air, creating an alternative trade route that has already generated millions of dollars for the Maldivian economy.
The Ministry stated that from 15 May 2024 to 7 November 2025, a total of 3,617 tonnes of cargo were transported through the service. During this period, 17 airlines connected to the sea-to-air network, with goods shipped to 24 countries.
