President Dr Mohamed Muizzu spent over six hours meeting with residents of Hulhumalé Phase II on Thursday night, listening to concerns, complaints, and suggestions as part of an ongoing series of public engagement meetings being held across Greater Malé Region.

The meeting, which began at 9:00 p.m. at Salahuddin School and continued until 3:20 a.m., was held as part of consultation initiative launched by the President to directly engage with residents. Similar meetings have been held in other areas, with each meeting typically lasting several hours.

During the first part of the meeting, President Dr Muizzu spent approximately three hours listening to residents, who raised a range of issues including housing, employment, medical needs, public services, and general living conditions. Residents from different backgrounds addressed the President directly, presenting grievances, personal difficulties, and opinions on various matters.

Following the listening session, the President addressed several of the concerns raised and announced measures related to Phase II, including plans to reduce rent for 4,000 flats. He said issues that could be resolved immediately would be announced, while matters requiring further assessment would be addressed at a later stage.

The meeting continued beyond the formal session, with the President spending more than three additional hours meeting residents individually. During this time, members of the public submitted letters and written notes outlining their concerns, which the President received and said would be reviewed.

Hundreds of residents attended the meeting, including individuals seeking housing assistance, medical support, and employment-related solutions. Some participants waited several hours for the opportunity to speak with the President.

The Hulhumalé Phase II meeting was attended by Cabinet ministers, signifying the first time such a large-scale public consultation involving senior Government officials has been held in the area. The President said the meetings are intended to ensure that public concerns are heard directly and addressed through continued engagement with communities.
