Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced sheet piling works for Phase 2 of the Malé North Side Boduthakurufaanu Magu Development Project in the ongoing upgrade of one of the capital’s most heavily used road networks.

According to MTCC, demolition of the existing quay wall along the Phase 2 stretch has reached 65 per cent completion, while installation of settlement tanks is now 40 per cent complete.

Utility works remain ongoing, with new water and sewer pipe networks being laid across the project zone and expected to finish within the week. The company noted that these upgrades are being coordinated with MWSC and STELCO to avoid service disruptions once road surfacing begins.

The ongoing Phase 2 is part of the MVR 144 million redevelopment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, which aims to ease long-standing traffic congestion in Malé through the construction of wider, four-lane roads and improved pedestrian access. The project also includes the installation of a new stormwater drainage system to reduce flooding during heavy rainfall, a recurrent concern for the city’s road users.
