Work has commenced to develop Usgeykolhu into Maldives’ first interactive immersive museum. The project was awarded to Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) by the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage. Designed as a state-of-the-art immersive museum catering to all age groups, the facility will use modern technology to present Maldivian heritage in an engaging and interactive manner. Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim stated that the project represents a transformative step for the heritage sector, combining traditional heritage with modern advancements to reshape public perception and create a sustainable, cultural space.

The initiative is part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s efforts to revive Maldivian heritage, modernise the heritage sector, and reconnect cultural history with the public. Immersive museums are internationally recognised for their ability to actively engage visitors, and that the Usgeykolhu project aligns with ongoing national plans to preserve, protect, and promote the Maldives’ historical and cultural legacy through innovative approaches.
