The Maldives Zakat House has introduced the Fitr Portal to enable real-time monitoring of Zakat al-Fitr cash collections, allowing daily figures to be tracked from both online payment platforms and physical cash transactions.

The Fitr Portal has been introduced to facilitate the collection of Zakat al-Fitr in cash, particularly to accommodate Zakat payers who are not accustomed to using online payment methods. The system allows local councils and the Zakat House to record and consolidate cash collections efficiently.

The availability of consolidated, real-time data is expected to support the timely and equitable distribution of Zakat al-Fitr to eligible beneficiaries across the islands at the end of Ramadan, in accordance with Shari’ah requirements.

The Zakat House said the introduction of the Fitr Portal further strengthens and systematises the mechanism for accepting Zakat al-Fitr payments in cash through local councils, while improving transparency and accountability in the collection process.

Zakat administration in Maldives has undergone significant improvements with the establishment of the Maldives Zakat House and the enactment of a new Zakat Act. The legislation aims to strengthen institutional oversight of Zakat, enhance public confidence in the system, and ensure that contributions are distributed effectively to those entitled under Islamic law.
