The Ministry of Finance and Planning has instructed Government and State institutions to deposit the Ramadan allowance for eligible employees on 12 February.

The Ministry issued a circular outlining the procedures to be followed in disbursing the Ramadan allowance.

Under the guidelines, employees holding more than one job are to receive the allowance only from their primary place of employment.

The circular also states that employees who are on paid or unpaid leave at the start of Ramadan will not be entitled to the allowance unless they resume work during the month. In such cases, the allowance will be paid on a pro-rata basis, calculated based on the remaining days of Ramadan.

The Ministry has further instructed the public accounting system to upload and post all relevant information by 10 February to ensure timely processing of payments.

Under the Employment Act, all Maldivian Muslim employees in both the public and private sectors are entitled to a Ramadan allowance of MVR 3,000, which must be paid before the start of Ramadan.
