The national airline Maldivian has resumed direct flights between Malé and Dhaka, Bangladesh, restoring air connectivity between the Maldives and Bangladesh.
According to the airline, the flights will operate twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays. The flight schedule has been arranged to allow passengers to arrive in Dhaka in the morning, making it easier for travellers to connect to other international destinations.
Maldivian said the resumption of flights coincides with the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the Eid holidays, a period when travel demand between the two countries typically increases. The airline added that the decision to restart the route was made in response to strong demand from both Maldivians and Bangladeshi nationals working in the Maldives.
Maldivian had previously operated regular weekly flights to Dhaka, but the service was suspended until August 2024 due to political unrest in Bangladesh at the time.
Tickets for the route start at USD 399, with each passenger entitled to a checked baggage allowance of 30 kilograms. Maldivian currently operates international flights to India and China, serving five destinations across the two countries, while also operating seasonal flights to other destinations during holiday periods. The airline’s fleet currently consists of 26 aircraft, including one Airbus A330, one Airbus A320, five ATR aircraft, eight Dash-8 aircraft and eleven Dash-6 Twin Otters.
