President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that while ongoing global conflicts may require the Maldives to scale back or delay certain projects, initiatives in the housing and health sectors will continue without interruption.
Speaking at a press briefing at the President’s Office, President Dr Muizzu said the Government is closely monitoring global developments on a daily basis and assessing their potential impact on the country.
He noted that austerity measures may be required as economic pressures increase, with priority to be given to essential sectors.
“If we are required to slow down or pause projects, we will prioritise housing and the health sector. These two sectors will continue without any delay. Other sectors may have to be scaled back or postponed if necessary,” President Dr Muizzu said.
The President added that projects most likely to be affected are new initiatives funded directly through the State budget. In contrast, projects supported through external financing or contractor-financed models, as well as those already underway, will proceed as planned.
He also said the Government is taking measures to mitigate the impact of global conflicts on the public and maintain economic stability.
