First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has highlighted the close and longstanding friendship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka following a cultural engagement held in Colombo during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s State Visit.

In a message shared after the event, the First Lady expressed appreciation to Colombo Mayor Vraie Cally Balthazaar for hosting a Sri Lankan tea experience at Siri Nivasa, the official residence of the Mayor. She noted that while Ceylon tea has long been cherished by Maldivians, the experience was made especially memorable through the inclusion of the “Tomorrow’s Colombo” exhibition showcasing artwork by school students.

The programme featured tea brewing and tea pairing sessions, alongside presentations by participating students. The First Lady described the engagement and discussions held during the event as a reflection of the warmth and enduring ties shared between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

During the visit, the First Lady and the Mayor also exchanged views on social development initiatives and philanthropic work, while discussing ways to strengthen people-centred cooperation between the two countries.
