President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that efforts are underway to open a branch of Bank of Maldives (BML) in Sri Lanka.

Speaking during a meeting with the Maldivian community in Colombo, the President said discussions regarding the establishment of a BML branch in Sri Lanka had shown positive progress and expressed optimism that the matter would be resolved in the near future.

The President noted that opening a branch in Sri Lanka would provide greater convenience for both individuals and businesses of the two countries, particularly given the significant Maldivian community residing there and the close economic ties between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

He further stated that the expansion would support BML’s efforts to strengthen and expand its services internationally.
