Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed has announced that a business forum targeting businesses in Addu City and the southern region will be held later this month.

Speaking during a press briefing today, minister Saeed said the forum is scheduled to take place in Addu City on May 14 and 15 in efforts to strengthen economic activity in the southern region. He noted that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had directed the Government to place special focus on developing the economy of Addu City over the coming years.

The minister added the Government is also working to introduce incentives aimed at supporting the establishment and expansion of businesses across different regions of the country in order to increase economic activity outside the capital.

Minister Saeed said the forum will bring together business representatives from Addu City and the southern atolls, alongside entrepreneurs and investors from Malé and various sectors including tourism. The event will include discussions and information sessions focused on investment opportunities, business development, labour and technology-related areas.

The minister added that several Government ministries are expected to participate in the forum, while the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority and the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises are also expected to provide information relevant to businesses and investors.
