The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast strong winds, rough seas and widespread showers across large parts of the country over the next five days.
In a weather advisory issued on Friday, the Met Office stated that a low-level circulation had developed to the southeast of the Maldives, resulting in strengthened winds across the region. The agency also noted that a low-pressure system persisting to the northeast of the country has created favourable conditions for the onset of the southwest monsoon.
According to the advisory, squally showers are expected during the coming days, particularly across the southern and central atolls. The Met Office further warned that sea conditions are likely to remain rough as wind speeds strengthen across the country.
The agency advised the public, especially seafarers and mariners, to remain updated on the latest weather forecasts and to take necessary precautionary measures during the period of unstable weather conditions.
