Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Ali Shareef has called on countries to strengthen cooperation and accelerate urgent measures to address climate change.
The minister made the remarks while attending Türkiye’s Road to COP31: Resilient Cities high-level meeting, where environmental leaders discussed climate resilience, recovery efforts and global responses to environmental challenges.
During the meeting, minister Shareef urged countries to intensify climate action and collaborate on innovative solutions to combat the impacts of climate change. He also expressed the Maldives’ support for Türkiye’s role in hosting the upcoming COP31 summit.
On the sidelines of the event, the minister held discussions with Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, regarding climate adaptation assistance and the inclusion of Maldivian proposals in the Adaptation Fund. Minister Shareef also met with Muhammad Juanda to discuss cooperation in priority sectors ahead of the upcoming climate summit.
In addition, the minister held talks with Abdul Awal Mintoo on regional cooperation and joint efforts to address environmental and climate-related risks.
