Island Aviation Services Limited has announced that interested parties are being sought for the development of a new passenger terminal at Dharavandhoo Airport.

As per the announcement, the terminal development project will be carried out through contractor financing, with the deadline for submission of Expressions of Interest set for 11:59 p.m. on June 4. The company stated that proposals would only be accepted from parties who express interest through email before the deadline.

Authorities stated that the project is expected to be completed within 18 months from the commencement date.

Under the proposed project, the airport terminal is planned to be expanded from the existing 959 square metres to 1,874 square metres. According to IASL, the expanded facility is expected to increase passenger handling capacity from 80 passengers to 175 passengers.

The development of Dharavandhoo Airport forms part of a presidential pledge by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. The airport, which was opened on October 17, 2012, and currently handles more than eight flights daily, was officially handed over to Island Aviation in April this year.
