President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that one of the main objectives of the Government's digitisation drive is to reduce opportunities for individual influence and favouritism in the delivery of public services.

Responding to a question at a press conference held at the President's Office on Monday, the President said greater digitisation would reduce human involvement in decision-making processes and allow services to be delivered more fairly and efficiently.

Using Aasandha and the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) as examples, the President said the Government's goal is to minimise the need for individual officials to make decisions on applications submitted by the public. He added that digitisation would help ensure services are provided through transparent systems rather than personal influence.

The President said he wants to eliminate practices where individuals rely on connections or influence to obtain services, while others are left waiting despite meeting the required criteria. He noted that digitisation would help strengthen services such as Aasandha by making them more transparent and accountable.

Since assuming office, President Dr Muizzu has promoted the "Maldives 2.0" initiative. As part of the initiative, MINDCo, which develops and maintains the Onegov platform, is working to make 70 per cent of Government services available through the platform this year.

The Government is also working to introduce a digital identity system to facilitate easier access to services provided by Government institutions, State-owned enterprises and financial institutions.
