President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to incorporate a green belt into the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project as part of efforts to enhance greenery and improve the appearance of one of Malé's main roads.
The President made the annoucement during the first episode of The Pulse, a new programme launched to discuss Government policies and priorities. The inaugural programme focused on environmental issues and ongoing initiatives aimed at improving sustainability and environmental protection.
Speaking on the programme, the President said special attention is being given to ensuring that the redevelopment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu includes more green spaces. He said the Government's vision is to establish a green belt along the outer side of the road, featuring large trees planted at regular intervals to create a greener and more attractive environment.
The President said the initiative would complement efforts to increase green cover in urban areas and encouraged the public to take environmental issues seriously. He also called on citizens to support Government initiatives aimed at protecting and preserving the environment.
Boduthakurufaanu Magu is currently undergoing redevelopment in phases. The project covers the stretch from the Local Market area to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal, with work on several sections already completed or under construction.
