Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has opened a dedicated "Calm Room" at Terminal 1 of Velana International Airport (VIA) to support passengers with non-visible disabilities.

The facility was inaugurated during a special ceremony held at Terminal 1 on Sunday by MACL Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed. Representatives from the Maldives Autism Association, Autism Care Maldives and senior officials of MACL attended the event.

Introduced under the name "Boli", the service is designed to support passengers with non-visible disabilities by providing access to dedicated facilities and assistance throughout their journey.

Modelled on similar programmes implemented at airports around the world, the Calm Room has been specially developed to help reduce sensory overload and anxiety that may be caused by the airport environment. The space includes a range of sensory equipment and features intended to provide a calming and comfortable environment for passengers.

The facility also includes arrangements for a caregiver or accompanying person to remain with the passenger when required. In addition, passengers registered under the service will receive a special lanyard and identification card, allowing airport staff to easily recognise individuals who may require additional assistance and provide support more efficiently.

MACL stated that its objective is to ensure that all services available at Velana International Airport are accessible and convenient for every passenger, while continuing to enhance service standards and improve the overall travel experience.
