Former Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Moosa Zameer has stated that despite resigning from his ministerial post, he remains committed to serving alongside President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and the People's National Congress (PNC).
Speaking publicly for the first time since his resignation at a PNC rally held at the party's headquarters on Tuesday night, Zameer said he had stepped back from active party involvement following the 2018 presidential election to create opportunities for younger members to take on leadership roles.
Zameer said that while political parties and leaders may change over time, the ideologies they represent remain constant. He added that he continues to support the nationalistic ideology currently championed by President Dr Muizzu and the PNC.
He further stated that although various leaders had contributed to advancing this ideology, President Dr Muizzu's leadership had marked a significant shift through the implementation of a "Maldives First" policy that prioritises national interests.
Addressing the reasons for his resignation, Zameer described the past year as a demanding period, noting that the responsibilities of the Finance Minister required extensive daily commitment. He said health concerns had led him to conclude that he would be unable to fulfil those responsibilities to the standard expected.
Zameer reiterated his support for President Dr Muizzu and assured PNC members that he remains ready to undertake any responsibility entrusted to him in advancing the party and its ideology.
