Zakat Al-Mal collections rise 73% to MVR 7.5 million in May

The State received MVR 7.5 million in Zakat Al-Mal contributions in May this year, according to statistics published by the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).

Data released by MIRA show that Zakat Al-Mal collections for May increased by 73 per cent compared to the same month last year, when MVR 4.3 million was received.

As of the end of May, total Zakat Al-Mal contributions received by the State this year had reached MVR 58 million. During the corresponding period in 2025, the amount stood at MVR 50 million, reflecting an increase of 14 per cent.

The amount allocated per eligible beneficiary under Zakat Al-Mal this year has been set at MVR 5,500.

Zakat Al-Mal payments had been deposited to 2,384 individuals registered in the low-income individual registry as of 1 Dhul Hijjah 1447. A total of MVR 13.1 million was distributed among the beneficiaries.

The Zakat House noted that this year's allocation per beneficiary is higher than that of the previous year and represents the largest amount distributed per recipient under Zakat Al-Mal to date.

Last year, each eligible beneficiary received MVR 5,000 under the scheme. As such, the amount allocated per person has increased by MVR 500 this year.
